composition

the project proposes to convert the existing farm and make it the new head office of raiffeisen bank broye vully lacs. its imposing size and its position at the crossroads of the vy-d’avenches and saint-aubin roads offers superb visibility.

the original composition, a wooden barn and an adjacent dwelling in rubble masonry, is maintained. the various ancillary buildings added over the years are demolished. the work retains the significant elements of the buildings: the traditional pitched roof, the outer walls of the barn and farmhouse, and the general layout and load-bearing structure.

the bank is accessed via a small square that is treated as an extension of the public space. this square indicates the building's institutional role and makes it more visible from the street.

programme

on the ground floor, the public part of the building occupies part of the former barn, using fluid, generous spaces. the areas for staff are on the upper floor and the attic floor. in the centre of the banking hall, an opening provides spatial continuity between the different levels and offers some interesting visual relationships. the "chimney", glazed at the top and with its sides covered in perforated metal, brings a warm light down through the building and into the reception area.

materials

while the original appearance of the exterior walls is maintained, the interior wall surfaces are all completely covered: the walls and ceilings with plaster, the floor with concrete. only the outlines of the old framework are still visible in this mineral setting. the light well in the centre of the foyer is made of brass. this versatile metal, chosen for its image value, is used again as plating on the main desk.
