the new building is constructed on the northern part of the site, in continuity with the old school building and the sports hall. it connects with the existing buildings to form, with them, a functional whole. the school buildings are set around the yard, which becomes the focal space of the complex. this yard is subdivided into areas reserved for different activities (ball games, quiet area, children’s games, etc.) while allowing the space to be used for a single purpose when special events are held.
the entire project is incorporated into a compact building. the new school is organised as four spatial and pedagogical units, a familiar space, whose scale is between that of the classroom and the school. these units comprise two classrooms, a learning support room and a multipurpose area that is the core of each unit. this multipurpose area can be used in many ways: for group work, as a complement to the classrooms, an exhibition space, cloakroom, etc. the sports hall is on the lower level and is a continuation of the existing hall, to make use of any synergies.
the compact dimensions and efficient thermal envelope minimise the building’s energy requirements. the logical nature of the project’s implementation enables it to comply with the swiss minergie-p standard for low-energy-consumption buildings. |
